ABA is currently seeking nominations for the ML Lamar Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be presented in the very near future, with the date to be annouced.
In 1949, M.L. Lamar opened a small dry goods store in Austell. Over time, the once small business grew into many stores for women's, children's and men's clothing, sewing notions and textiles. For years, Lamar's sold more Levi's than any other business in the Atlanta area.
Mr. Lamar was always proud to be a citizen of Austell. He believed in giving back to the community and was an active member of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club. He also founded the Austell Merchants Association which later became the Austell Business Association.
In 1999, the Austell Business Association was poised to present M.L. Lamar with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his service to our community. Unfortunately, he passed away before receiving the award and it is in his memory that we present this award annually to a commendable individual who has notably served in, and been and inspiration to, our community.
